This documentary presented a very thoughtful telling of a true Canadian Forces story. It accurately captures the true and raw emotions of the surviving members of a plane crash in the northern tip of the Northern Canadian Arctic almost 30 years ago. It shows the humanity of each service member in the Canadian Forces. I was able to put myself onto the shoes of those who survived the plane crash. The documentary concluded with the song sung by the surviving members as they were awaiting rescue. That part was definitely powerful as it captured the strong spirit of Canadian Forces service members. This documentary respectfully pays tribute to those service members who have lost their lives in the crash that day. Director Tamara Iwanchyshyn was able to brilliantly do it all in a documentary under 10 minutes. This documentary did the story justice.

Rollcall keeps the memory of this fateful flight to Alert alive. While its old photos and footage create a necessary distance from the tragedy, its personal, familiar interviews fill in the space with humanity. Thus, director Tamara Iwanchyshyn creates a feeling of an old family story being retold, with all the warmth and emotion that comes with it.
